Recommended system requirement for an engineering student.

Depending on your stream in engineering you will be using different software in your syllabus, each software has its own system requirement, but I will take the example of AutoCAD here, this software is very famous among engineers because of its scope in different streams.

Unless you are not doing any graphic intensive work in your engineering course then a 50000 rupees laptop would be enough to do all the work related to your course or related to your office afterward.

But in case you also need a laptop that can do 3D modeling and simulation and can run software like blender or Autodesk Maya at its full potential, then you will have to choose a better laptop.

Most engineering students don’t need that powerful laptop they can simply go with these affordable options. these laptops can easily handle your work in programming, AutoCAD, Microsoft office, attending online classes, and also doing projects related to your stream.

Here is what you should look for in a laptop under 50000

Buying Guide to choose the Best laptop for engineering students under 50000

Let’s understand what are the parameter that we should look at before choosing the laptop in detail.

CPU

Most engineers will use their laptops for making projects, working in Microsoft Office, creating models, and watching movies in their free time, so you need a laptop that has a CPU that can do all these things smoothly.

After doing my research on available CPUs under 50000 which are leading in processing power are Intel core i5 11th generation or Ryzen 5 5000 series processor. These laptops are on the upper side of the price point, if you are interested in exploring a more budget-friendly laptop then there are some laptops with Intel Core I3 1125G4 processors which has also 4 cores and can give similar performance to Intel core i5 10th generation CPUs.

That is why I have also included laptops with Intel Core I3-1125G4 which are more budget-friendly and have superior performance

RAM

From my experience, 8GB RAM size will give enough speed to smoothly run most of the software that you need while engineering, and you may not need to upgrade it unless you are doing some heavy work or you start some job where you have to use multiple software at once.

For doing projects in college, watching movies, browsing the internet, and using different Engineering software 8GB RAM should be enough for you but don’t worry if you see that it is not enough for you after purchasing a laptop then you can easily upgrade it.

Most laptop now comes with 2 RAM slots where one Slot is preoccupied and another is empty and can be upgraded up to 32GB of RAM, some laptop may only upgrade up to 16GB so you should check this in the laptop model.

Storage

Most engineers will store their personal files, photos, videos, and even movies and web series that they watch in their free time, storage having a capacity of more than 256 GB are recommended, under 50000 rupees you can easily get 512 GB of SSD as storage in the laptop.

Some laptop also has HDD along with SST so if you need extra storage then you can go with this combination SSD will be used in hosting the operating system file for faster booting time whereas HDD will be used for storing all the files and videos

Display

under 50000 rupees most laptops come with IPS type display and full HD resolution which will give you a smooth and better colour accuracy which will enhance your on-screen experience.

Some users who are a college going students may prefer a more compact and lightweight laptop that can be easily carried then they can go with a 14-inch screen size laptop, or if you don’t mind carrying strap weight then you should also choose a 15.6-inch screen because the 15.6-inch laptop has extra working space as well as a numerical pad that we don’t say in 14-inch screen laptop.

Graphics card

Here you will have to go with the integrated graphics card that comes along with the CPU because under 50000 there is hardly any laptop with a dedicated graphics card.

Also, most engineers don’t need a dedicated graphics card because they will not use any software that requires intensive graphic processing power. I am assuming that you will just need a laptop to do your college project, do coding, watch movies, and work in PowerPoint.

You will need a graphics card if you also want to play games in your free time or do modeling and Run 3d simulations, use heavy software like Blender or Maya for High Poly Modeling and Sculpting.

FAQs

Which is better core i5 or core i3 for engineering?

There is no short answer to this question because it totally depends on what software you can use while you are doing your engineering, but most engineers who will just watch movies and attend online classes, and learn some software related to the course can go with the i3 1125G4 processor.
Intel Core I3 will also be cheaper than the core i5 laptop so if you are on a tight budget you can also consider the i3 laptop that is on our list.

Do I need a better laptop if I am doing computer engineering?

No, you don’t need a better laptop than the laptop that is in the first position on our list, but if you have an extra budget and want to be on the safer side and you know you may also do heavy gaming or do 3D modeling then you will need a better laptop.

Acer aspire 5 VS MSI modern 14 which is better?

Though both laptops have the same cores count and clock speed, Acer Aspire 5 has the latest Intel core i5 11th processor whereas is MSI modern 14 has 10th generation processor, also because of the latest generation in Acer Aspire 5 you get a better CPU cache so the overall speed is better in Acer Aspire 5.
if you need more speed then obviously Acer would be a winner however if you also need backlit keyword functionality then MSI modern 14 is a winner here.

Final Verdict

In the end, if you are interested in knowing my top 3 recommendations and you don’t want to read the full article.

  • At the first position, I will recommend you to consider HP 15s because it has one of the best processors in this price point, i,e AMD ryzen 5 5000 series which comes with 6 cores and 12 threads. Also, its beautiful White Outlook has no match.
  • My second recommendation would be to consider ACER ASPIRE 5 which has the latest 11th generation processor with 4 Cores and 8 Threads, this would be also good for those who are looking for a compact and lightweight laptop.
  • Last but not least if you are looking for a value for money deal and want to spend less then you can choose the HP 14s this is much cheaper than any other laptop on our list and also has 4 cores even though it has an Intel Core I3 processor.
